A brief history of the High Tea:

The tradition of high tea began with the Duchess of Bedford, a lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria.

During the reign of Victoria, lunch was a light meal and dinner was a heavier meal served late in the evening. The long fasting between meals left Lady Bedford wanting sustenance in the late afternoon.

She began requesting that her maid bring her a cup of tea and a light snack each day at 4pm.

She soon began inviting friends to join her to dine and gossip creating a new social event that has become an important part of British society.
